Matter & Thread Compatible Smart Blinds™
One QR code, every ecosystem. Our Matter-certified motorized shades work with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings out of the box — no skills, no cloud lag, no vendor lock-in.
What Is Matter?
Matter is an open smart home standard backed by Apple, Amazon, Google, and Samsung. It lets devices from different brands work together natively in the app you already use.
Most Matter blinds use Thread — a low-power mesh radio — to keep commands fast and local. The result: faster responses, longer battery life, and no need for separate apps or skills.
For shoppers, this means buy once and use everywhere. A Matter blind set up today still works if you switch from iPhone to Android tomorrow.
Works Across Ecosystems
One blind, every voice assistant. Matter-certified shades show up in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings simultaneously.
Faster Local Control
Thread keeps commands inside your home. No round trip to the cloud means blinds respond in under 200ms, even when your internet is down.
Future-Proof Standard
Matter is backed by Apple, Amazon, Google, and Samsung. Buy once, use across every smart home you build over the next decade.
Easier Setup
Scan one QR code. Matter blinds onboard to every supported ecosystem at once — no skill installs, no separate apps, no cloud account juggling.

View ProductSetting Up Matter Blinds in 4 Steps
Most setups take 10-15 minutes total. Here's exactly what you'll need and what to do.
Confirm Your Matter Controller
You'll need at least one Matter controller hub. Most homes already have one: Echo (4th gen+), Apple HomePod mini, Google Nest Hub (2nd gen+), or Samsung SmartThings Station.
Verify a Thread Border Router
Thread blinds need a Thread border router. Echo (4th gen+), HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, and Nest Hub (2nd gen+) all include one. If you don't have one, we recommend the Apple HomePod mini.
Mount and Power the Blinds
Install the motorized blinds following the included instructions. Charge the rechargeable battery or connect to hardwired power. Press the pairing button on the motor for 3 seconds.
Scan the Matter QR Code
Open Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings — whichever you use — tap Add Device, and scan the Matter QR code on the blind motor. The blind onboards to your network and Thread routes traffic locally.
Thread vs Wi-Fi: Which Should You Pick?
Both are valid choices. Thread wins for battery-powered blinds; Wi-Fi wins for plug-in convenience without extra hub hardware.
Battery Life
8-14 months — Thread radios sleep between commands
4-6 months — Wi-Fi keeps the radio active to stay connected
Response Time
<200ms — local Thread mesh, no cloud round trip
500ms-2s — depends on cloud latency and ISP load
Range
Mesh extends as you add devices — no dead zones
Limited to your router's coverage
Mesh Networking
Every plugged-in Thread device extends the mesh
Each blind connects directly to the router only
Setup Without Extra Hardware
Needs a Thread border router (most modern hubs include one)
Just needs your existing router
Works Through Walls
802.15.4 radio penetrates walls well, mesh routes around obstacles
Single point-to-point connection — walls degrade signal
Compatible Ecosystems & Controllers
Matter is supported by every major platform. Here are the most popular controllers our customers use.
Amazon Echo (4th gen+)

Samsung SmartThings
SmartThings Station and Aeotec Smart Home Hub support Matter. Add a Thread dongle for Thread devices.
Home Assistant
Home Assistant Yellow, Green, and Skyconnect dongles all support Matter + Thread for advanced users.
Common Questions
Quick answers to the questions our customers ask most often before buying Matter blinds.
Do my old smart blinds work with Matter?
Sometimes. Brands that committed to Matter post-launch (Eve, Aqara, IKEA, and others) have rolled out firmware updates to existing products. Older Wi-Fi-only or Zigbee-only blinds without an upgrade path will not gain Matter support.
Can I run Matter and Wi-Fi blinds in the same home?
Absolutely. Most homes do. Your Matter blinds use Thread for local control, while Wi-Fi blinds connect to the cloud. Both show up in your smart home app of choice and you can mix them in the same scenes and routines.
Will Matter shorten my battery life?
The opposite. Thread (the radio behind most Matter blinds) is designed to be low-power. Our Matter blinds typically last 8-14 months on a single charge versus 4-6 months for Wi-Fi-only equivalents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Detailed answers about Matter, Thread, and how they fit into your smart home.
What's the difference between Matter and Thread?
Matter is the smart home application standard — it defines how devices talk to apps and each other. Thread is the underlying low-power wireless network many Matter devices use. Think of Matter as the language and Thread as the road. Some Matter devices use Wi-Fi or Ethernet instead of Thread, but for battery-powered smart blinds Thread is the dominant choice.
Do I need a hub for Matter smart blinds?
You need a Matter controller (which most modern smart speakers already include) and, for Thread-based blinds, a Thread border router. The Echo 4th gen, Apple HomePod mini, Google Nest Hub 2nd gen, and Apple TV 4K all serve both roles in one device. If you have any of these, you're ready to go.
Will my old smart blinds get Matter via a firmware update?
It depends on the manufacturer and chipset. Brands like Eve, Aqara, and SwitchBot have shipped Matter firmware updates to many existing products. Most legacy Wi-Fi-only and Zigbee-only blinds will not, since they lack the radio hardware Matter requires. Always check your specific model.
Is Matter free?
Yes for end users. Matter is an open, royalty-free standard maintained by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). Manufacturers pay a small certification fee, but consumers don't pay anything to use Matter — no subscriptions, no platform fees, no hub licenses.
What if my smart speaker doesn't support Matter?
You have a few options. The cheapest is to add a Matter-compatible device — an Apple HomePod mini, Echo Pop with hub features, or Nest Hub all serve as Matter controllers and Thread border routers for around $50-$130. Alternatively, a USB Thread dongle in a SmartThings hub or Home Assistant unlocks the full Matter feature set.
When did Matter blinds launch?
Window covering support landed in Matter 1.2 (October 2023) and rolled out across major ecosystems through 2024. By 2026, every major smart blind brand offers Matter-certified models. We expect Matter to become the default for new smart blind launches over the next 2-3 years.
